Unfortunately it's harder to deal with fraud like this with a bank debit card becuase you don't have that money in your account until AFTER the problem is solved. With a credit card you've likely got fraud protection and they don't deny you the amount charged or consider it a real charge, until after the thing is all worked out. The first thing to do is call your bank or credit card company immediately and tell them what went on.
